“I hate having these types of conversations….”
This was the start of a mentoring role-play I had with someone outside of work not to long ago. She was nervous about a conversation she needed to have with a close friend about how her feelings were hurt by some recent events. Although I disagreed with the magnitude of the hurt she was feeling, I jumped on the opportunity to coach her on one of her greatest fears: confrontation.
Tough conversations are an inevitable part of life. They occur at the office, at home, with friends and family. Successful people learn how to maximize such conversations by learning from them, not dreading them.
I’d like to share with you some tips I have learned to make tough conversations less stressful and a growth opportunity.
